Come what may, and love it

One of the most memorable General Conference talks I have ever heard was given by Elder Wirthlin in October 2008. He titled it "Come What May, and Love It". He talks about how to deal with the bad days and trials in our life. There are days when the sun doesn't shine, and the rain seems to fall, but only on us. Days when we sleep past our alarm, have "no food" to eat, fail our test, experience an embarrassing moment, etc. etc. etc. He gives beautiful counsel on how do deal with our personal cloudy days.

1. Learn to Laugh: It seems so simple, yet a laugh is so powerful. When we choose to look at things from an optimistic perspective, things seem to have a way of working out. Laughing allows us to release the pressure of a situation. "The next time you are tempted to groan, you might try to laugh instead. It will extend your life and make the lives of all those around you more enjoyable."

2. Seek for the Eternal: Choose to look at the bigger picture. Trials are the opportunity for growth. My teacher shared a really good analogy the other day: Sometimes in life, we have to fall down. Just as a small toddler falls many times as she learns to walk, we too must sometimes fall in order to learn to succeed. It is through trying, and sometimes failing, that we learn to become more than we currently are. Elder Wirthlin goes on to quote my favorite scripture, D&C 121:7-9. I highly recommend you go look it up.

3. The Principle of Compensation: every sacrifice is noticed and will be accounted for.

4. Trust in the Father and the Son: Through the atonement of Christ, we find peace and hope. We can take joy in knowing that things today, are not the way things will always be. We are never left alone, and when it feels like we are, there is someone who has experienced the exact thing we are. As we turn to our Father, we can find the strength to make it through the bad days.

I am truly grateful for the thorns in life, for without them, there would be no roses. I hope you have a fabulous day, and remember that you are loved!
