Chain Reaction
As many people know, I am a big dreamer. I am an optimist and sometimes set unrealistic goals for myself. Something one of my dear friends said to me the other day really got me thinking. We were talking about how I have such a hard time deciding what to do with my life, because I want to make my own impact on the world. I want to inspire people to be better. I want to be like Mother Teresa. I am so scared of picking a life course that will curb the number of people I can impact. She reminded me of the concept of the chain reaction. I'm sure many of us have seen the commercial where one person performed a small, simple, kind act for someone, who then passed on the kindness to another, until many had been blessed. Although the first person may never really know the extent of his/her action, he/she truly served many by choosing to go out of her way to make someone's load lighter. I am not sure where my life will be lived and who I will be able to help, or what I am going to become. But I do know that I am not going to pass up the opportunities to bless those around me today. There are soooo many opportunities all around us, that can be hard to see if we are so focused on our lives. One of my favorite quotes is about our dear prophet President Thomas S. Monson. It has been said that he, "does what most people only think about doing".

Think back on the activities you've participated in thus far in your life: Student Body Pres, running track, R.S. secretary to name a few. You've already touched and changed hundreds of peoples lives. I try to imagine what it would have been like to go to high school with you, I imagine it would be something like this: I arrive at school thinking, 'I hope I see Mel today', inevitably I do and there you are with your classic welcoming smile and hug coming around some corner in the school hall ready to make anyone's day whose name you happen to know. That doesn't just apply to you at school. I think you're changing peoples lives for the better wherever you are. Because of that I don't think it matters where you are or what you do you will be the change, the force for good in many peoples lives.
